Remembering ‘Sarah Burke’ Tribute – X Games Medalist Dies At Age 29

An X Games superstar has passed away at age 29 due to head trauma.
On January 10th 6 time X Game metalist Canadian Sarah Burke died from a dramatic crash on the Super Pipe in Utah. She was training for an event and took a hard fall at the bottom of the pipe. Just 9 days after her fall she passed away from her injuries.
Sarah is one of the greatest women’s athletes and earned an ESPY award in 2007. She is also the first girl to land the 720, 900, and the 1080. Sarah fought to have her sport added to the winter Olympics and won the battle. Because of Sarah the ski super pipe and slope style events will be added to the roster for the 2014 winter games. This accomplishment was one of her proudest moments. The winter X Games will be in memory of Sarah and all she did for the sport she loved. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family.
~Tune in to ESPN on Thursday for day 1 of the 2012 Winter X Games.

Copper is first to open Superpipe in North America for 6th consecutive season [2011 Snowboarding]

Cooper Mountain Superpipe

Thanks to the 4 1/2 ft. of snow in the last month, Copper is proud to announce the opening of their 22 ft. Superpipe.  This is the 6th consecutive season that Copper has been the first to open up a Superpipe in North America.

The superpipe will play host to 2011 Visa U.S. Halfpipe Grand Prix and USASA Nationals.  According to a recent press release from Copper, the rest of the mountain is in prime condition as well, despite a slow start at the end of October/beginning of November:

Conditions on the mountain are as good as they have ever been for this time of November, and the lucky guests who have skied or snowboarded at Copper recently have been experiencing some of the best early season conditions in recent memory. As of Thanksgiving weekend, Copper has received almost 4½ feet of snow this month, with 10 lifts open (and more to come), providing more than 750 acres on 70+ trails (and more to come), with a 40 inch upper-mountain base. During the Thanksgiving weekend Copper plans to open up even more terrain, including: Timberline Express and the Super Bee lifts with Collage, Encore and Oh No, Ore deal, Overlode, Rosi’s Run and Treble Cliff trails, as well as the Alpine Lift with Formidable, Triple Treat, Too Much and Far East trails. **Terrain and lift openings subject to change.
