Check it out . . . we’ll be giving away some promo skate and DVDs and some other cool stuff as we gain followers. Check it out for exclusive videos, sales announcements, events and probably some hilarious stuff from the guys in Colorado.
BC Boulder TM Ryan Johnson recently delved into his archive of photos and came up with a slew of images from some summer and fall skate sessions with the team. The photos were recently posted to the shop’s Facebook page, which you can follow here. Micah Jenkins, Ryan Schehrer, Shane Maloney, Devin Swango, and Jonathan Barhite get down on CU campus and around town.
This, the inaugural year of Vans’ BC vs. BC national video contest, BC Surf & Sport’s Flatirons location took top honors, beating out every other BC in the land. Voted chapions by the likes of Vans’ Marketing Director, team riders, a host of sales reps and visual merchandisers, as well as some random hobos sitting outside of Vans HQ, the sleepy town of Broomfield, CO was turned into a full-on, sugar-induced, party.
Vans Sales rep Shawn Gruenhagen and Visual Merchandiser Curtis Sorenson were the wizards behind the griddles, grilling up waffles with M & M’s, powdered sugar, and some mystery ingredients that we’re still investigating. Each store’s respective video was played throughout the night and tons of people came by to join in on the fun.
Afterwards, a special awards ceremony was held for the Flatirons crew where they received the much coveted, very exclusive, “BuckWild” traveling trophy. A real deerhead, we’re not sure how exactly Gruenhagen acquired the beast . . . we can only guess that Sorenson and Geoff Rowley went hunting together and killed it with their bare hands.
Each team rider received a traveling bag full of custom Vans gear as well as the radical (albeit hilarious and cheesy) Gold Medals from Vans HQ. ”We’re winners!” shouts Michael Frith, with waffle in his mouth . . . a moment born for YouTube.
Check out the video from the party above, along with the winning entry below. Click any of the pictures for a larger view. You can view all of the entries here, at Vans of The Rockies YouTube page.
Just in case you hadn’t heard, Vans recently posed a video challenge to all BC locations from Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, and Washington. Each shop was to register a crew of 10 skaters, employees, homies, etc. to make a 5-6 minute video judged by Vans Team Managers on style, trick selection, creativity, and the overall fun factor.
BC Colorado Springs, nestled in the Chapel Hills Mall on Briargate, has been holding down the skateboard scene in Colorado Springs for quite some time now. With a brigade of up-and-comers like Caleb Smith (who recently took fourth place at Element’s Make It Count Contest Series), Colorado Springs BC has an impressive roster. The shop is super active in their local community, raising tons of cash for the building of a new Team Pain skatepark and sitting in on the local Parks and Rec Board. This video is rad and we’re proud to present it as the first BC vs. BC video entry (check out the wicked freestyle by shop manager Rob Miller . . . complete with the ponytails).
The BC Surf and Sport Back to School bash was everything you would’ve wanted. Great deals, free food, and a dunk tank. Wait . . . back that up. A dunk tank? Yessir, we brought out the big guns to make sure that everyone was not only fed with delicious meats courtesy of Vans, but also soaked to their bones at the Billabong/Von Zipper dunk tank.Check out a few of the pics below, but beware of the splash zone.
Thanks to Billabong/Von Zipper for providing the splash downs, and the Vans crew for manning the grill in South Florida. In August. That takes some dedication boys.
This week I did an interview with one of our riders that’s been with BC’s Nebraska stores the longest. I’ve known Shane Williams for almost 10 years and he is one of those kids who are down to be pushed and really start to get after it when they have to. Not only is he a great skateboarder and snowboarder, but Shane also has a passion for music. I’m also pretty sure he loves Baker more than anyone, even Andrew Reynolds. Without Further Adieu . . . Between taking in all of the unique culture that Ft. Lauderdale has to offer from Spring Breakers, ERGO’s Dingus gave BC a thumbs up and name-dropped his way through the list of employees.
